Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 30, 2026
1. Who We Are
Our website address is: https://musiprof.com. Musiprof is a marketplace platform dedicated to connecting students with qualified music teachers.
As a business operating in Quebec, Canada, we are committed to protecting your personal information and strictly adhere to the requirements of Loi 25 (Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information).
2. What Personal Data We Collect
We collect information to provide a seamless booking experience, ensure high-quality lesson matching, and improve our platform.
A. Account & Basic Information
When you register on our platform, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and general location (e.g., neighborhood or postal code).
B. Student Profiles (Progressive Profiling)
To help teachers prepare the perfect lessons and to provide you with tailored recommendations, we allow users to create individual "Student Cards" (for themselves or their children). We may collect:
- Demographics & Logistics: Age group (Adult/Child), preferred lesson format (at-home, online, studio), and schedule availabilities.
- Musical Identity: Chosen instrument, experience level, specific learning goals (e.g., playing for fun, joining a band, audition prep), and preferred music styles.
- Media: Optional profile photographs (avatars) uploaded to the student card.
C. Teacher Profiles
For music teachers registering on the platform, we collect professional details, rates, teaching experience, union membership status, and background information required to display on public profiles and process payouts.
D. Automated & Behavioral Data
We collect data on how you interact with our platform (e.g., searches performed, profiles viewed, profile completion rates).
3. How We Use Your Data (The Marketplace Flywheel)
We use your data for three primary purposes:
A. Core Services (Matching & Bookings)
Your data is used to facilitate matches between students and teachers, process secure payments, and manage lesson scheduling.
B. Personalized Marketing & Events (With Consent)
If you explicitly opt-in to our marketing communications, we use your stated musical interests, learning goals, and location to send you highly targeted invitations. This may include recommendations for new teachers, invitations to join local bands, or opportunities to perform in student recitals. You may withdraw this consent at any time in your dashboard.
C. Platform Analytics & The Marketplace Flywheel
To build a better marketplace, we utilize advanced analytics. We aggregate and analyze user data (such as popular music styles, high-demand neighborhoods, and lesson format preferences) to understand market liquidity, optimize our matching algorithms, and identify new community opportunities.
Note on Privacy: When utilizing data for these broad analytical purposes, we prioritize aggregating and anonymizing the data so it cannot be directly linked back to your individual identity.
4. Photographs and Videos at Events
During Musiprof-sponsored events, such as student recitals, band showcases, or workshops, we may capture photographs and videos. This media may be used on our website, social media channels, and promotional materials to celebrate our community.
Opt-Out Policy: If you or your child do not wish to be photographed or recorded during these events, you must explicitly inform us in writing prior to the event by contacting info@musiprof.com.
5. Who We Share Your Data With
We never sell your personal data to third parties. We only share data in the following contexts:
- Between Users: When a lesson is requested or booked, relevant contact details, lesson goals, and student avatars are shared exclusively with the specific teacher involved to facilitate the lesson.
- Infrastructure Partners: We share necessary data with trusted, secure third-party service providers (such as our database hosts, payment processors like Stripe, and transactional email providers) strictly to operate the platform.
- Analytics Providers: We use tools like Google Analytics to monitor platform performance. This involves sharing anonymized or pseudonymized interaction data.
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Our platform uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to keep you securely logged in, remember your preferences, and track analytical events (such as tracking when a user completes their profile). Certain public pages (like our blog) may also display ads via Google AdSense, which uses cookies to deliver personalized advertisements based on browsing preferences.
7. How Long We Retain Your Data
We retain your personal information only for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. If you delete your account, your profile data will be erased, with the exception of specific transactional, administrative, or legal records we are required to keep for tax and security purposes.
8. Your Rights Under Loi 25
Under Quebec's Loi 25, you have complete control over your personal data. You have the right to:
- Access: Request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Edit or update inaccurate information directly in your user dashboard, or request that we correct it.
- Erasure: Request the deletion of your personal data (subject to the legal exceptions mentioned above).
- Withdraw Consent: Toggle off your marketing and recommendation preferences at any time in your dashboard.
