About

Hailed as “a very imaginative pianist, endowed with remarkable musicality and virtuosity”, Italian pianist Pietro Freiburger enjoys a diverse career in music. Mr. Freiburger regularly performs in various concert venues. As a pianist, he has performed in Italy (Giuseppe Verdi Hall, Teatro Vittoria, Church of Santa Pelagia and Reggia di Venaria in Turin, National Archives in Asti), Canada (Claude Champagne Hall, Serge Garant Hall, Kin Foundation in Montreal) and the United States (Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City). As an organist, he has performed in Italy (on the Pinchi organs at the Basilica del Colle Don Bosco in Castelnuovo Don Bosco and at the Waldensian Temple in Turin) and Switzerland (on the Mascioni organs in Bellinzona and Giubiasco). He has been awarded prizes in various international piano competitions in Italy (Perugia, Padova, Calabria, Orbetello, Castiglione Falletto, Albenga), Finland (WPTA) and the United States (Radda Rise, American Virtuoso). He is also the recipient of the Gelinas and the Angers awards for excellence in piano from the University of Montreal's Faculty of Music and of the doctoral scholarship from the research organization OICRM. He is also a student member of OICRM and CIRMMT, among the most important laboratories for music research in North America. An active pedagogue and scholar, Pietro has taught piano, organ and theory at various schools as well as private and public institutions throughout Italy. He currently serves as Graduate Research Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Faculty of Music at Université de Montréal, while maintaining an active private studio. As a writer, Pietro writes CD and concert reviews for Canada’s leading classical music magazine, La Scena Musicale. An avid collaborator, he is currently pursuing a multi-disciplinary chamber music project with saxophone player Jérémy David. The project revolves around the transcription for saxophone and piano of the main German lieder cycles for voice. The première of these cycles is presented to acclaim at Claude Champagne Hall in Montreal. Mr. Freiburger holds degrees from Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin, Italy, where he obtained his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in piano performance and his Bachelor of Music in organ performance. He then obtained the Graduate Diploma in piano performance at Université de Montréal, Canada, where he is currently attending the Doctor of Music degree in piano performance. He has participated in masterclasses with artists of international acclaim such as pianists José Mendes, Aleksandar Madzar, Michel Béroff, Nikita Fitenko, Roberto Plano, Christa Butzberger, Andrea Lucchesini and organists Enrico Viccardi, Michael Radulescu, Ton Koopman and Peter Westerbrinck.

What You'll Learn

Piano, Music Theory I believe that a tailored and flexible approach to teaching is the key to a successful padagogical relationship. Therefore I blend instrumental and theoretical skills during every lesson to make my students improve to their best. My teaching style mainly focuses on pianistic gesture, in order to obtain a fluid and relaxed playing, and strong encouragement, while keeping demands at a reasonable level.
