Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any hidden fees or subscriptions?

No. The price on a teacher's profile is the full price you pay — no subscriptions, no contact fees. Some teachers who are members of the GMMQ (Quebec Musicians' Guild) include a pension surcharge, but this is always included in the displayed price. You are only charged when a lesson is confirmed by your teacher.

Do you offer in-person lessons near me?

Yes — Musiprof primarily connects you with teachers near you for in-person lessons at home or in studio. Online lessons are also available. Beyond private lessons, we offer a band program and community recitals for a complete musical experience.

What happens after I purchase?

The teacher will contact you within 24–48 hours to schedule your first lesson. If there's no contact within that window, Musiprof follows up on your behalf.

What is the refund policy?

You only pay for lessons taken. We refund untaken lessons minus a penalty (the lesser of $50 or 10% of the remaining value), as per Quebec consumer protection law.

How frequently do lessons unfold?

By default, lessons are designed to be taken once per week to help you maintain consistency and momentum. A 5-lesson package, for example, is intended to be completed in 5 consecutive weeks. However, we understand that every student's goals are unique. If your teacher agrees, lessons can be scheduled at a different frequency (e.g., every 2 weeks or once per month). Please discuss your preferred schedule with your teacher during your first contact. Your package includes a 30-day grace period after your last scheduled session. If you are doing bi-weekly lessons, ask your teacher to extend your session dates in the system to ensure your file remains active.

Is there a Satisfaction Guarantee?

Yes! We want you to find the perfect match. If your first session isn't right, contact us within 48 hours. We'll credit 50% of the lesson cost back to your account so you can try a different teacher immediately.

Why should I pay through Musiprof instead of paying my teacher directly?

Paying through Musiprof is what keeps you protected — the Satisfaction Guarantee, refunds, and dispute support only apply to payments made on the platform. Paying a teacher directly (cash, e-transfer) voids those protections, and we can't help if something goes wrong. If a teacher ever asks you to pay outside Musiprof, please let us know.

More about guitar lessons

Is it better to take guitar lessons or teach yourself?
Guitar lessons provide a structured learning environment for you to gradually improve. A guitar teacher will provide you with the right information at the right time in order for you gain “quick wins” and feel motivated by your progress.
How many hours should you practice guitar a day?
For best results, we recommend that you practise at least 3 times a week. The amount of time that you practise is not the most important factor. For example, it is better to practise well for shorter periods of time than to “noodle” around for an extended period of time. Learning to practise well takes understanding and research. A good guitar teacher will help you understand the difference between good and bad practise.
Where do guitar lessons take place in Vancouver?
At Musiprof, guitar lessons take place in various locations around the city of Vancouver. The lessons are available at our teachers accredited home studios or online. Some teachers offer the option of at-home lessons for an extra transportation fee. The “at-home” tab on the different teacher profiles indicates whether the teacher offers this option and the extra cost that is charged.
How many classes per week is ideal for musical progress?
1 class per week is the norm and will allow you progress efficiently. It will allow for enough time between classes to practice what you have learned in your weekly lesson. Steady practise is essential for effictive progress. It can be a good idea to take a second weekly lesson to learn a complementary topic such as music theory.
How Many Hours should I Practice Guitar ?
For the best results, we advise that you practise at least three times per week . However, the length of time of practise is not the most crucial aspect. For instance, practising well for shorter periods of time is preferable then to “noodle” around for a long time. Ask your teacher to help you understand the difference between good and bad practise habits.
How long will it take to learn the guitar ?
Every guitar student advances at a different rate. Usually, it takes a trainee three to six months to transition seamlessly from one chord to another.
Are teaching rates different from one teacher to another?
Yes, each teacher sets their own price. On average, the prices generally look like this:
Can I take more than one class a week?
If you wish to have 2 classes per week with your teacher, there is no problem. If the teacher has room in their schedule it can work.
