About

Sean is a bassist and composer currently based in Montreal. He has been an in-demand sideman for over a decade, having performed with many award winning artists throughout Canada and the United States. Sean lived in New York City for several years, and received a Master's Degree in Music from Manhattan School of Music in 2019. While in New York he got to play with some of the best musicians in the world, as well as studying with jazz legends Buster Williams and Jay Anderson. He is known for his melodicism, beautiful sound, and his dedication to serving the music.

What You'll Learn

I like to teach music through learning the actual music that my students are interested in and using the process of learning that music as a way to introduce various musical concepts like understanding harmony, form, rhythm, melody, the roles of the instruments, etc. That way it is fun for the student, and they get to actually see their improvement playing the music they want to play, while also developing these very important skills to set them up for success down the road. I also like to focus some time every lesson on the technique of playing the instrument and developping a good sound and touch. Making sure to work on this a little bit every day goes a really long way in improving as a musician. And trying to avoid developing bad habits, which can be extremely difficult to break, is important. Getting comfortable with the instrument and learning where the notes are are important so you don't have to think about these things when making music.
